First up, a familiar situation. We check in to our Hampton Inn.

Front Desk Clerk: And you reserved two double beds?

AP: Yes.

Front Desk Clerk: Just for you?

AP: Yes.

Front Desk Clerk: But wouldn’t you like a room with a king size? I can switch your room for you.

AP: No, thank you.

Front Desk Clerk: Oh, ok….

Next up, a photo of a young man (or woman) highly interested in your visit.

Thanks so much, interested student, in participating actively in this college search process with us. Oh, you got a 16 on your ACT and still want to be a doctor? Hmmm. Might we suggest something? Less naps wrapped up in your Volcom sweatshirt in the middle of the school day and more studying. And even then, you’re most likely not going to get there, little one.

Side note: How exactly does a kid get away with this in the middle of school day? Did some ridiculously stupid teacher think this was punishment? As if taking a nap in the middle of the day when you’re 16 years old is a bad thing? Naivety abounds.

Last up, a situation that would make Emily Post have a coronary.

Here’s the deal. This has all the markings for BEST. FAIR. EVER. It’s like being at the office the day before Christmas, where your boss trusts you to carry on and do all the right things (because obviously the boss is already on vacation). You can do WHATEVER you want. If you want to tell kids that your college specializes in making shoestrings, go for it. Tell a kid that the school next to you doesn’t even require an application - you can just show up and move in on the first day (and it’s FREE). And then tell them you’ll give them a scholarship if they make a McDonald’s run for you. Eff it. Live it up.
