MONDAY MOURNING
Welcome back counselors and ambassadors! We hope that amidst all your travels, we have become a place for you to call home. Let your sentiments run wild.
Since many of you had your first open house over the weekend, we found this story quite appropriate to begin our Monday.
Just thought I’d share a quick story that might inspire a new post. A few years ago during a large admission visit event we asked our president to lead the event welcome. During his message he began to explain to the visiting students and parents the difference between “large publics and small privates” proceeding to repeat this line a few times during the welcome. Considering our school is a “small private” our staff and students ran from the room trying to stifle laughter. The best part was our dean had to try and explain to him why he should choose a better phrase to use before our next event.
The things college Presidents say without realizing what they’re actually saying to a group of 17 year old kids could fill a Chris Rock HBO special. We can only hope he might have also included the following comments:
How a small private is actually good for you
How small privates mean lots of personal attention
How you know you’ll be at a place with other kids that enjoy a small private experience
…. we could go on, but you get the idea. Thanks for sharing counselor, and we hope you had fun stifling your laughter.
We hope you all have a good day on the road. Here’s to no lost luggage, Dunkin Donuts aplenty, and dedicated visitor parking at every high school!
